More about Plastic Surgery

As promised in my last article on plastic surgery that there is a lot to know on the subject to say and to write, I am here trying to capsulate all what was left. For having a recap; let me revise that plastic surgery is a correction done for the function or the form of body. Apart from reconstructive and the cosmetic plastic surgery (which has been in discussion in details in my previous article) there are other subdivisions of surgery which need light to come on sight and will be discussed here.

Burn Surgery: as somehow can be guessed by name that it is done in cases of burns. There are two types of burn surgery. One is acute burn surgery which is operated right after when somebody gets serious burns and where is a danger of acute burning of one or more body parts to the extent of losing appearance or function. Second includes reconstructive surgery which is operated when the wounds are healed and the restoration is felt necessary.

Aesthetic surgery commonly known as the cosmetic surgery is all about the crazy mob getting a perfect appearance. You must have heard about many TV artists, your favorite actors and super models becoming a subject of news of getting surgery for different parts with which they think, they can be a perfect symbol of beauty. Many recent examples include Indian actor Amir Khan; Mr. Perfectionist for the world who went for the nose surgery, Shahrukh Khan having cheek bone surgery and there is a long list in female actors and models who very often get the consultancy for having aesthetic surgery to enhance their beauty appearance. You may be wondered to know that surgeons use the basic aesthetic surgery principles in all types of surgeries for bringing the best results.

Craniofacial surgery; which is subdivided in two types; one is named as pediatric and adult craniofacial. The former includes the dealing of inborn and congenital abnormalities. The pediatric craniofacial surgery is for the correction of cleft lip or the palate; you must have come across many children around with cleft lip or palate, this is incurable and can easily be restored through surgery. Adult craniofacial surgery deals with secondary surgeries and the fractures. The craniofacial training is necessary and is given to all the surgeons before they go in field.

Hand surgery; must be a familiar with, deals with the hand and wrist corrections. These include severe hand burns and injuries, congenital hand abnormalities, and the peripheral nerve problems. Hand surgery is a must part of plastic surgery and is considered a compulsion for microsurgery (another division of plastic surgery about which you will read in coming paragraphs. There is one problem connected with hand surgery which is the formation of scar tissue. Scar tissue formation becomes more problematic on the delicate hands as it becomes the cause of losing dexterity.

Microsurgery is all about the plantation of tissue to reconstruct the default. This is generally concerned with the reconstruction of some missing part of tissues. Here a tissue is transplanted on the reconstructed site with the reconstructive blood supply. This is mostly in cases of breast reconstruction, head or neck reconstruction.

Childhood is the best time when many abnormalities can be restored after having surgery. Children face many problems which are quite different from the problems of adult patients and bring another branch of surgery known as pediatric surgery. Pediatric surgeons are specialized and treat the best all children problems.

Now let’s talk about some abnormal and the obsessed cases going for plastic surgery. Undoubtedly, aesthetic craze turned many celebrities and those following them to undergo plastic surgery but let me add to your knowledge that this has become a disorder as well. According to a research body dysmorphic disorder is a psychological abnormality through which people love to undergo knife for the perfection of their body. This is something which can bring serious harms. Thinking how? Under BDD people are preoccupied and take many parts of their body as the defected parts and go to surgeons for having a cosmetic surgery; surgeons are medical people, they are not saints who can dissolve such obsessions. Surgeons treat the patients with surgery but what? 15% of the affected population is not happy with the surgery results and to a sad fact; many of them commit suicide when they see that they have not got what was the perfect ideal for them.

This is not surgery problem rather a psychological disorder for which a psychological therapy must be consulted. If you have somebody around who is surgery freak, take care he may be suffering with BDD.

No doubt surgery does wonders when you lose some natural shape of your body part either by accident or by birth and become hopeless that you may never get the normal one but it does instill a sensation of complex in population. So, the best is to have surgery when your doctor or the medical consultant recommends you to have it.

Currently it sounds like Movable Type is the preferred blogging platform out there right now. (from what I’ve read) Is that what you are using on your blog?
