Hazrat Ali (Karam ALLah Wajho)
Ali was First to Accept Islam among Youngsters:
It was a banquet in the Arabs community. The festivity going on was usual but the motive was unique and isolated than others holding such banquets. When it was about to end, people were addressed by their host who gave them a call which was definitely strange for them. It was Muhammad (SAW) explaining the incident of his prophet hood and urging them to believe in him by worshipping a single God instead of the thousands of wood made sculptures. It was surely an unexpected call yet the response was very much expected. All of them suddenly started saying what the worst they could say. Suddenly a pin drop silence prevailed when a child of ten years stood up and announced that he had did believe in Muhammad (SAW) and embraced Islam after believing in whatever he has said.
The Relationship Bond between Ali and the Prophet:
The child was not a stranger for Muhammad (SAW). He was Ali (KUW); a cousin of the prophet who later on was also hi son in law. He was the first among the men’s folk to believe in Allah and his prophet. He was born in Kaaba sanctuary and was brought up in the same house where the prophet was brought up. His father’s name was Abu Talib while his mother was Fatima Binte Asad. Abu Talib was the same uncle of holy prophet (PBUH) who looked after the prophet after the death of his grandfather. Many groups especially shia ones attested that Ali (KUW) was born inside the kaaba where he stayed with his mother for three days. The first person who Hazrat Ali saw was the Holy Prophet (PBUH) when he took the child in his hands and named him as Ali the meaning of which is “existed one.”
Muhammad’s Affection for Ali:
It was three days after the marriage of Holy Prophet (PBUH) with Hazrat Khadija that Hazrat Ali was born. When he was of 6 years, the prophet (PBUH) took him to his home to rise in.
Ali; is equally Believed by Different Sects:
Hazrat Ali is not an important personality just being the fourth caliph of Khulfa-e- Rashdeen but he also holds a position where Umma splits in two groups.
Like other religions, Islam is also having its followers in groups of Sunni Muslims and Shiah Muslims. Sunni Muslims believe in him as one of the respectable companions of the prophet and the fourth and the last caliph while Shiah Muslims believe him as first Imam and only true caliph after prophet. Here a split is found and the groups diverted in their ways of following.
Duties that Ali Performed:
Hazrat Ali possessed many qualities of soul and body and was dear to the prophet (PBUH). The Holy Prophet trusted him like his own son and shared many things with him. It was the night before migration when the prophet gave the responsibility to Hazrat Ali of staying behind and joining them later after returning the things people had given in the supervision of the prophet (PBUH).
Ali as Brother of the Prophet:
When the circle of the life was getting constricted on the believers; the Holy Prophet (PBUH) decided migration to another land for having the safety of his followers. It was there that the new bond of brotherhood was formed. Each migrant was given in brother hood to an Ansar. Holy Prophet (PBUH) announced Hazrat Ali as his brother.
Ali as Great Warrior:
Hazrat Ali was a great warrior and his name was enough for terrifying the non believers. His title was “Allah’s Lion” and enemies well understood the meaning of it.
He participated in all the battles fought in his life time except one. In many of these battles Holy Prophet (PBUH) appointed him the commander of Muslim Army and the world saw Ali (RA) coming back with the waving flags of victory. It was the battle of Khyber when all strategies seemed to fail and the enemy was taking enough pride in his strength and seemed unconquerable, the Muslim army kept on trying for three days but all went in vain. It was on the very morning of third day that Holy Prophet (PBUH) called Ali (RA) from his camp and entrusted the lead to him. The war was won under the leadership of Ali (RA).
In his reign Muslims fought three major battles. The one was Battle of Bassorah (Battle of Camel) in which the beloved wife of prophet; Hazrat Ayesha was on the opposite side of Ali joined with the army of Hazrat Muawiyah. The battle started because Umayyad wanted to take the revenge for the martyr of Hazrat Usman. They were angry with Ali that he did not punish the rioters and killers. Ali was victorious here.
The dispute was tried to be settled down through various steps by Ali but in vain. It took to the second war known as Battle of Siffin, soon which led to the third and the most major chaotic war known as laylat-al-harrir (the night of clamor). The final war was pursued only by a small group in Ali’s army while the major part of Ali’s army went in disagreement for keeping the war on after the suggested solution by the opposite side for the arbitrary election of caliph.
Marriage and Children:
Hazrat Ali was married to the dear daughter of Holy Prophet (PBUH) named Fatima (RA); the only progeny of the prophet who survived. Fatima was the beloved daughter and Holy Prophet (PBUH) gave him the gift of the best husband. Hazrat Ali had two sons named Hassan and Hussein; the two princes were owned by the prophet and were very dear to him. They were the closest ones to the prophet.
The Forth Caliph:
He was appointed the forth caliph after the martyr of Hazrat Usman. Hazrat Ali had to face the strong opposition from the very first day of his khilafat. He was surrounded by conspirators who made everything difficult for him to deal with. His reign was spent in settling the inner issues of state as the peace of the government was deteriorated by the people having bad intentions. When hypocrites found that nothing could defeat the man’s intentions; they planned Ali’s murder.
Death:
He had a routine of waking people at the time of Fajar while going to mosque. It was such a day when he was followed by his murderer who had a knife smeared with the poison all over. The murderer stood right after Ali when the prayer started. Hazrat Ali was murdered when he was performing the duties of Imam.
It is the briefest biography of the dear companion of Holy Prophet (PBUH). He still lives in the heart of the Muslims and is respected all over the world.
