Island turns pink for Mother’s Day

An Island Hideaway will turn pink for Mother’s Day on May 8 to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

An Island Hideaway promotions manager Erin Campbell said she decided to hold a lunch to help raise funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation after her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002.

“Seeing my mother going through the trials of cancer was a very emotional experience,” Ms Campbell said.

“Cancer affects so many women and is a very scary disease.”

Breast Cancer Australia statistics show breast cancer has increased more than 20 per cent in the past decade. Awareness and regular checkups are important for the prevention and early treatment of the disease.

“My mother has been in remission for over 11 years thanks to early detection,” she said.

Instead of buying the usual chocolates or flowers, An Island Hideaway aims to provide mothers with a personal experience in the name of a good cause.

Mothers will be tickled pink following a calm water cruise to and from An Island Holiday. Situated on South Stradbroke Island, the resort is a serene oasis where mothers can indulge in special treatment.

“As soon as you step on to the island, you feel a sense of peace come over you. It is a place where mums can forget about the chaos on the mainland,” Ms Campbell said.

Mothers will enjoy three hours of gourmet food and live entertainment, with 10 per cent of each ticket donated to National Breast Cancer Foundation. There will be raffles, games and prizes up for grabs among a sea of pink theming.

The resort hosted a Mother’s Day event last year. However, this is the first year funds will be donated towards National Breast Cancer Foundation. Ms Campbell said last year was a sell-out, but she expects this year to be just as good, if not better.

“I would like to see a full boat, with everyone jumping on board for support,” said Ms Campbell.

“Every little bit counts, whether it’s $10 or $10,000.”

Tickets cost $89 for adults and $39 for children.
