What is yoga?

Often we heard the word yoga, so what is yoga? Or what comes in our mind when we listened this word? Frequently we saw in TV in different programs that a woman apparently in unfeasible poses and the anchor person introduce it as yoga pose. Many people knows a yoga as an exercise, and a number of people have doubt that may be the yoga is form of difficult or impossible type of exercise but believe me this is just a doubt not anything else.

Yoga is very old Indian body of knowledge. Word yoga came from the Sanskrit word (yuj) which means to untie or put together or integrate. Yoga then is about the union of a persons own awareness and the universal awareness or consciousness. Yoga refers to traditional, physical, mental, and spiritual disciples that invented in India. The word is linked with thoughtful practices in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

In Hinduism the word yoga is used to refer to one of the six conventional schools of Hindu philosophy, in Buddhism yogic ideas can be found in the early sermons of the Buddha, at the same time as in Jainism. Yoga is the total form of all activities which are mental, verbal and physical. Ancient yogis had belief that in order for men to be in unity with himself and with his environment, he has to be integrate, the body, the mind and the soul. For these three to be included, emotion, action and intelligence must be in equilibrium. The yogis devised the way to accomplish and maintain and balance their body, mind and spirit through exercise, breathing and meditation. And these three exercise; breathing and meditation are the main yoga structures.

Basically in yoga the body is treated with care and respect because we know the body is main tool or instrument in men’s for work and development. Yoga exercises actually gets better the circulation, rouse the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the glandular system of the body which may usually results in a better health. The breathing technique in the yoga has built up based on the concept that breath is the source of life. When in yoga the students gain the control on their breath, as they slowly increase their control on breath and fully focused on their breath that is the time when they prepare their selves for next step meditation.

Many people have this false impression that in meditation the mind has gone to blank but this is really a wrong impression. In the yoga the student takes the activities of mind into fuscous effecting in a (calm or quiet) mind. The physical poses and breathing techniques expands the body awareness and it also help us to release our everyday stress.
